LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS

Preschool:  Must be 3 by November 30, 2019
KinderDance:  Must be in Kindergarten September 2019
Level 1:  1st & 2nd Grade     (Some 3rd Grade Students)
Level 2:  3rd Grade & Up (Must have teacher approval)
Level 3:  5th Grade & Up (Must have teacher approval)
Level 4:  7th Grade & Up (Must have teacher approval)
Advanced: Teacher Placement Only

Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis.  Students are placed in a particular class based on age and dance
experience.  On average, students will spend two to three years at each class level. (ie: Level 1, Level  2, etc.)

Our instructors have been trained to work with students at each level.  The instructors will evaluate each student on a
continuing basis.  Advancement through the class levels will be strictly at the discretion of the instructor.  Although
many children will advance with other members of their dance class, many will not.  Each child comes to us with
different levels of physical ability, skills, technique and commitment to dance class.  Throughout the year, they will be
evaluated on their physical condition and ability to perform the steps and movements at their current level.  If the
instructor has seen that the student has mastered the challenges of their current level and shows the physical ability
and attitude befitting the next higher level, it will be recommended that the child advance. Practice, number of classes
taken  & stretching at home often affects advancement.

Advancement is based on the combination of physical ability, attitude & behavior in class.  It is possible for a child to be
in class with many students either older or younger than they are.  It is problematic to move a child who cannot meet
the physical demands of their current class into a more advanced class.  Injury can occur when a child’s body has not
yet built the strength & endurance necessary for a more advanced class.  The child’s safety is of utmost concern to us.

Attitude and behavior in class are also considered when placing a child in class.  All classes require the student to
know proper terminology & movements required in the class and show that they can perform them properly to avoid
injury.  A child who disrupts the class makes it difficult for their fellow students and instructor.  Discipline is learned and
built upon as the students advance through the class levels.  If a child is physically ready, but cannot focus properly to
work at the next higher level, they will remain in their current class until they have matured enough to handle the
demands of the next level.  Each child will be placed where they have the best chance of achieving success at their
individual level of ability.

REQUIREMENTS FOR  CLASSES

Lyrical – All dancers participating in Lyrical MUST also take Ballet – no exceptions. Ballet technique & training is
crucial!

Pointe – With teacher approval only! Students must have a solid background in Ballet training, must have the proper
technique and strength to hold their weight properly on Pointe and must be mentally ready for this challenge! Students
must also be at least 13 years old. Pointe students will be invited when Miss Jennifer feels they are ready. It is a
rewarding & difficult challenge as well as a privilege. Students who are not ready can seriously hurt themselves. We
also recommend an approval from your pediatrician! Summer dance required…

Preschool  -  For 3 & 4 year olds only. Must be 3 by November 30, 2019

KinderDance – For Kindergarten students only – must be in Kindergarten in September 2019

Leaps & Turns – For Levels 3 (2nd year & up), Level 4 and Advanced Students – with permission from Miss
Jennifer in all levels. All Leap  &Turn students must either take a one hour classic technique class – Jazz or Ballet. Hip
Hop and Tap do not apply.

Level 1 – First, second and third grade students only!

Level 2 – Third (with teacher permission if they have mastered Level 1)  & Up

Level 3, 4 & Advanced – Teacher Recommendation Only

ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY IN ALL CLASSES BUT ESPECIALLY IN LEVELS 3, 4 & ADVANCED. If a student wants
to participate in Level 3, 4 or Advanced they must be 100% committed to dance. You cannot miss a month at a time for
sports, musical, etc. The pace at which we cover material is very fast and difficult. No exceptions! These levels are for
the most serious dance students who are looking to attend conventions, Disney, master classes, etc. If a student
misses class they MUST make up all classes in Level 3, 4 & Advanced (strongly recommended in every level) Ex: In
order to move from Level 3 to Level 4 we must see that you attend/make up all classes.
